By legend a witch sought refuge here in the 1500s from the witch-hunters but was seized and burned — the room where she hid is today called the Witch’s Room, where her ghost is said to remain. Visitors tell of an unseen force, voices and the feeling of being touched. The house sits on a far older ritual site.
