Santa Felicitas Church
Buenos Aires · Argentina · Church
The murdered beauty Felicitas Guerrero is said to weep still at the church railings of Barracas.
The church was raised by the Guerrero family in memory of their daughter Felicitas, shot dead in 1872 by a rejected suitor on the very spot where the sanctuary now stands. Forced into marriage at fifteen and widowed at twenty-six, she was known as the most beautiful woman in the republic. Every 30 January, the anniversary of the murder, her figure is said to appear inside the church. Those who tie a white handkerchief to the iron railings may find it damp with Felicitas' tears – a sign that love will come and stay.
