Lalbagh Fort — Dhaka Division · Bangladesh · Fort

By the light of the full moon, the Mughal princess Pari Bibi is said to appear singing and dancing on the fort walls.

Lalbagh Fort in Old Dhaka was begun in 1678 but left unfinished after Pari Bibi, daughter of governor Shaista Khan, died here in 1684 – her father came to see the fort as cursed and halted construction. The princess rests in her mausoleum at the heart of the complex, and legend has it she appears on full-moon nights, singing and dancing on the ramparts. Guards also tell of a ghostly horseman who rides in through the gate towards the prayer room in the small hours, only to dissolve into thin air. The fort ranks among Bangladesh's most haunted places.
