From dusk until midnight a White Lady is said to wander Bruges' 'Lake of Love', where young Minna once died in her lover's arms.

Minnewater, the 'Lake of Love' beside the Bruges beguinage, carries two intertwined legends. The oldest tells of Minna, a chieftain's daughter who fled a forced marriage and died of exhaustion in the arms of her beloved Stromberg; he is said to have buried her in the drained lake bed before letting the water flow back. The second legend concerns the White Lady – by tradition a Scottish widow from the beguinage who vanished so mysteriously that the lake was even dredged in the search for her. From dusk until midnight her pale figure is still said to glide along the waterside, making this one of Bruges' most storied spots.
