House of the Horseman of Jaraguá
Goiás · Brasilien · Haunted house
In the gold-rush town of Jaraguá a dead husband still rides home at night – his spurs jingling through the rooms of the house on Rua das Flores.
In the old gold-mining town of Jaraguá in Goiás, shaped by clandestine mines and slave labour, stands the house on Rua das Flores that has been haunted for as long as anyone can remember. Legend has it a woman of doubtful reputation lived there, whose husband kept a farm outside town and would ride in at night to check on her. When he died, he kept up his inspections. Residents and neighbours tell of a horseman in old-fashioned dress seen both outside and inside the house, of spurs jingling through the rooms and hoofbeats echoing along the pavement – with no horse in sight. Even the town hall retells the legend.
