Vila Hilda Mansion
Paraná · Brasilien · Manor
When a phone-book crew photographed the mansion at night, a face appeared in the glass of the front door – and "Hildinho" in the attic became the ghost of all Ponta Grossa.
The Mansão Vila Hilda, a French-inspired art-nouveau villa from 1926, was built by industrialist Alberto Thielen as a tribute to his wife Hilda. The mansion's fame came in 1999, when a company shooting night pictures of the house for a telephone directory cover developed the photograph to find a face in the glass pane of the front door – though the house had been empty. Tens of thousands of directories spread across the region, and the "Ghost of Villa Hilda" became the city's best-known legend overnight, drawing thousands of curious visitors. The attic ghost is affectionately called "Hildinho", and ghost-hunting teams have investigated the house, which today serves as a municipal museum.
