Deane House

In the old police superintendent's house in Calgary, a disconnected telephone rings — and a piano plays by itself.
Deane House was built in 1906 for Richard Deane, the Mounted Police superintendent at Fort Calgary, but the building's later years as a boarding house were marked by tragedy: several suicides and a notorious murder-suicide in which a man stabbed his wife. Today the house is a restaurant, where staff tell of an old telephone that rings despite having no wiring, cigar smoke drifting through the rooms, and an antique piano playing on its own. Visitors have also seen dark figures gliding down the staircase. It is counted among Calgary's most haunted buildings.
