In the ruin of Radyně outside Plzeň, the misshapen lord Radouš guards his treasure – donkey ears, goat's beard, a black hound at his side.
On a hilltop just outside Plzeň stands the ruin of Radyně, a 14th-century royal castle that folklore has made home to one of Bohemia's strangest ghosts. The legend tells of Radouš, born with donkey ears, a goat's beard and boar tusks after his mother in anger wished for a donkey rather than a son; mocked by all, he grew into a cruel lord who dabbled in black magic and had his wives murdered when they recoiled from his face. After lightning struck him down, his spirit was bound to the castle, where with his servant Black Hanuš and a black hound he guards the treasure in the vaults. Visitors still speak of a frightening figure among the walls after dark.
