Old Provincial Council of Granada
Andalusien · Spanien · House
Typewriters typing by themselves and shadows rising from the basement made this Granada office Spain's most famous workplace poltergeist.
In the late 1980s the provincial council's old building on Calle Mesones in Granada, partly built on the site of the demolished Magdalena church, became the scene of one of Spain's most talked-about poltergeist cases. Employees reported typewriters clattering on their own, drawers sliding open, drawings moved about, sourceless screams and shadowy figures rising from the basement. The parapsychology group Omega investigated from 1986, and when the newspaper IDEAL published the case in 1989 it became national news; investigators documented recorded voices and even produced a composite sketch of the figure. According to one of the era's more curious details, 39 windows were thrown open to "release" the energy from the building.
