In this palace on the Alameda de Hércules, a family member was allegedly kept locked away for life – and guards still hear footsteps no one takes.

This French-style palace of 1864 on Seville's Alameda de Hércules has been wrapped in haunting rumours for over a century. According to legend, the family kept a young relative confined in the house because of a forbidden love life, and it is this unhappy soul who is said to wander the building still. Residents complained early on of murmurs, knocks and ownerless footsteps, and the house long stood abandoned with a reputation as Seville's haunted mansion. Since the city restored it as a civic centre in the 1990s, security guards too have described an ethereal figure in the old stables.
