After the unsolved 1979 fire that killed 83, knocking and weeping are reported from room 510 of Zaragoza's old luxury hotel.

On 12 July 1979 a devastating fire swept through the five-star Hotel Corona de Aragón in central Zaragoza. Eighty-three people died, many from military families in town for a ceremony at the war academy, while Franco's widow Carmen Polo was rescued from the roof. In 1988 the Supreme Court found the fire had been accelerated by a foreign substance placed by persons unknown – possibly pyrogel or napalm – yet no one was ever held responsible. In the hotel, which operates today under a new name, room 510 is singled out as the heart of the phenomena: knocking on doors and walls, weeping from empty rooms, lights switching on and off, and shadows glimpsed in the corridors at night, according to accounts from staff and guests in the Aragonese press.
