Alexandra Palace opened in 1873 and burned down sixteen days later. What was rebuilt contains a Victorian theatre of 1875 which then stood dark for decades, used as scenery and furniture storage, before reopening in our own time with stripped plaster and bare brick. Once it was back in use, staff began noting things they could not account for. A working light at downstage left would swing back and forth while every other lamp hung motionless; over time the movement lessened, as though something had grown used to them. In the south corridor, FM radio noise was heard before any power had been run to the area. On CCTV outside the ladies' toilets a blurred white human shape has moved across frame, and on the building's west side a strong smell of cigarettes hits staff with no smoker anywhere near.
