Gimo Manor

Uppland, Östhammar · Sverige · Herrgård · Uhygge 3/5

An icy wind, a door that opens by itself and billiard cues strewn across the floor — at Gimo the farmhand Johansson is said to walk.

Gimo Manor in Uppland, with a main building from the 1760s, has — as a proper manor should — its own ghost. Legend names a farmhand called Johansson, employed by the ironmaster Carl Reuterskiöld in the 1800s. Staff have told of an icy wind that suddenly swept through a room just after eight while the door to the spiral staircase opened on its own, of dragging footsteps that follow from room to room, and of a black figure that glided past and took human form. Once the billiard cues lay scattered across the floor. The manor is a hotel and conference venue today.
