The fishing village of Stokkseyri houses Iceland's Ghost Centre with two dozen documented legends – and the local ghost Tanga-Tómas is said to walk the shore.

Stokkseyri is a small fishing village on the south coast that has made ghosts its trademark: in the old freezing plant on Hafnargata sits Draugasetrið, Iceland's Ghost Centre, where some two dozen classic Icelandic ghost stories are retold in dark, theatrical sets. The village also has a ghost of its own, Tanga-Tómas – by tradition Tómas of Norðurkot, killed by the ghosts Móri and Skotta one Christmas night on the road from Stokkseyri, after which three revenants were seen travelling together along the shore. Visitors and staff speak of cold shivers and the sense of more presences in the building than meet the eye. Black rock beaches, pounding surf and a ghost museum give the village an eeriness all of its own.
