Castello della Rotta
Piemonte · Italien · Castle
A knight with an iron cross around his neck is said to ride through the castle where his skeleton was unearthed beside his horse.
The medieval Castello della Rotta outside Moncalieri is often called the most haunted building in Italy. Most famous is the mounted knight with a cross around his neck - a figure from local lore that gained new life when excavations actually uncovered a knight's skeleton buried together with his horse and an iron cross. Legend links him to a young French marchioness whom the lord threw from the tower when her love for the knight was discovered. The skeptic organization CICAP has noted that the ghost reports only spread from the 1980s onward, but the castle continues to attract nocturnal visitors.
