Nanny Dorīte drowned herself in the palace pond when her officer abandoned her – now she appears in white in Jaunmoku's attic.

The hunting palace of Jaunmoku near Tukums, built in 1901 for Riga's legendary mayor George Armitstead, has a White Lady with a name and a fate of her own. During the First World War the German army was quartered at the palace, and the young nanny Dorotheja – known as Dorīte – fell in love with an officer. When the troops moved on she was left behind, pregnant and abandoned, and sought her death in the palace's great pond. Residents and visitors have since seen a girl in white on the attic floor, and those who claim to have spoken with her describe Dorīte as a good-natured ghost. The palace still hosts ghost evenings in her name.
