The Evil One was off to help a maid give birth but first looked in on some card players, and the Rössberg man hurried home ahead. With the mistress's help the maid was kept inside, and when the Evil One called on the three-legged stool and the three-bound broom to open, a leg and a band were cut away, leaving him powerless outside.
