The Oak Where the Devil Was Bound, Algutstorp
Västergötland · Sverige · Naturplats · Uhygge 3/5
After forcing the Devil to serve as a cart wheel, the priest bound him in an oak at Algutstorp — and the oak has never been felled.
In Algutstorp it was told that the curate Noren one morning found the Devil with the dean, busy teaching him to distill spirits. Later that same day, on his way home from preaching, a wheel came off Noren's cart, and he then commanded the Devil to be the wheel instead and bear up the cart. Arriving at the parsonage, Noren set the Evil One into a great oak and bound him there. That oak is said to have been marked for felling more than twenty times, yet no one has ever managed to cut it down.
