A maid read loose a whole swarm of devils – and had to invent impossible tasks before the master got home.

At Odderu in Hillesta lived a man rumoured to own the black book. One Sunday, while the household was at church, the maid found the book and read until the house filled with devils. To escape them she set them to work: gathering every pine needle in the meadow, hewing a stone bridge, and turning a giant cauldron smooth as glass. Just as the cauldron was nearly done, the master came home and grasped what was afoot.
