On Christmas night the shoemaker was driven to a strange stone house - where a friend twelve years dead saved him.

From Åbo, with events set in Pargas, comes the tale of the shoemaker Söderman, driven on Christmas night by a strange gentleman to a great stone house to sew boots. The leather sewed itself, and in a chamber he found an acquaintance dead for twelve years. The dead man warned him not to take too much pay and to leap from the carriage at the very spot where he had got on - and so he escaped becoming the Devil's shoemaker forever.
