In Sottunga the devil signed on aboard a Norwegian vessel for the promise of the first to come aboard on arrival. He expected to claim the mate's young and beautiful wife. But the captain had asked the mate to bring his dog and push its head aboard first. When the dark one struck and saw it was a dog, he let out a terrible roar.
