A farmer freed the dark one from a bottle beneath a birch root, then talked him back inside again.

In Strömfors the dark one had been shut in a bottle beneath a birch root for a hundred years. When a farmer felled the birch and opened the bottle, the fiend came out and wished to devour him. The farmer pretended to doubt that he could really shrink back into the bottle, and when the devil proved it, the farmer quickly corked it and condemned him to another hundred years.
