St Ingrid's convent ruin

Östergötland · Sverige · Kloster · Uhygge 3/5

A pilgrimage site around a saint never canonised — one sister said to have levitated in prayer, another to have bled from Christ's wounds.

Sweden's first female Dominican convent, founded ~1272 by Ingrid Elofsdotter, consecrated 1281. After Ingrid's death in 1282 she was venerated as a saint and the site became a pilgrimage goal; miracles were told of the sisters — one said to levitate in prayer, another to bear stigmata. She was never officially canonised. Ruins and a well remain. [History documented; the miracles are hagiographic legend.]
