Wat Prasat (Nonthaburi)
Nonthaburi · Thailand · Monastery
A headless apparition is said to wander the Ayutthaya-era temple of Wat Prasat — while the tree spirit Nang Takian dwells in its ancient tree.
Wat Prasat in Nonthaburi is celebrated for its beautiful Ayutthaya-period ordination hall, but among Thais the temple is at least as famous for its ghosts. A headless figure is said to move across the temple grounds at night, by tradition a remnant of an old execution site or military camp. An ancient takian tree in the compound is moreover held to be the home of Nang Takian, a female tree spirit who appears in traditional dress and demands respect from visitors. The temple is regularly named among Thailand's most notorious haunted monasteries.
