Wat Samian Nari — Bangkok · Thailand · Monastery

Two sisters in black flag down late-night taxis at Wat Samian Nari — then dissolve from the back seat.

For decades, Bangkok taxi drivers have told the same story about Wat Samian Nari in the north of the city: two women dressed in black hail a cab late at night, ask to be taken to the temple, and have vanished without a trace by the time the car pulls up at the gate. The legend is tied to two sisters said to have been struck and killed by a train nearby. Fresh accounts still surface — as recently as August 2024 a driver claimed his passengers dissolved in front of the temple gate. The temple itself is an ordinary working monastery, which makes the stories all the more unsettling.
