The brick mansion on the Bosphorus stood half-finished for eighty years — and spirits were said to have moved into its empty floors.

Construction of this red-brick mansion in Rumelihisari began in the 1910s for ambassador Yusuf Ziya Pasha, but halted when the First World War called the craftsmen to arms. The upper floors stood as empty shells for decades, the wind wailing through the unfinished tower, and popular lore held that a spirit — a peri — had taken up residence, earning it the name Perili Kosk, the haunted mansion. Tales of a female figure in the empty windows kept the rumour alive throughout the twentieth century. Fully restored, the mansion today houses Borusan's headquarters and an art museum — still under its old haunted name.
