On the walls of Kamianets-Podilskyi, a girl in a white dress is said to wander – she who died of grief when her beloved was slain.

The fortress of Kamianets-Podilskyi, built on a crag in the canyon of the Smotrych river, is counted among the Seven Wonders of Ukraine. The story is told of a girl in a white dress held captive in the fortress, whose heart broke when her beloved was killed – her figure is still said to glide along the walls at dusk. In the Papal Tower the folk hero Ustym Karmeliuk was imprisoned three times; legend has it he tied together the shawls his female admirers left behind and lowered himself from the thirty-metre tower. An ancient book of prophecies is also said to lie hidden in the passages beneath the fortress.
