The lights at Silver Cliff Cemetery in Colorado are among the best documented in the United States, and the reason is that somebody actually tested them.
Blue white lights are seen moving among the headstones at night. They have been reported since the silver mining days.
Critics offered the obvious explanation: reflections from the street lamps of the town below.
So the town turned off all of its lights.
The lights carried on dancing around the tombstones.
That test has been repeated in various forms since, and the phenomenon has been written up in National Geographic. Explanations have been offered involving mineral reflection and swamp gas, and none of them has ever been demonstrated on the ground.
The cemetery sits above the town in the Wet Mountain Valley, at high altitude and under exceptionally dark skies, and it is public.
