Lights went off during the day for no reason anyone could find. Staff working late described the sensation of being watched, sharp rapping sounds, and in one case a teacher who saw the figure of a man.

In 1985 Keller wrote a Halloween story for the pupils, teachers and staff, and named the ghost Jake. What happened next is the interesting part of this entry: the reports increased. Once the presence had a name and a story attached, staff began describing far more than they had before.

One teacher working alone in the evening heard scuffing footsteps coming down the corridor toward her classroom. She went to look, found nobody, and reported that the footsteps kept coming toward her while she stood there. She was frightened enough to climb out rather than walk back down the hall.
