Whiskey Hollow
New York · USA · Execution site
Five miles of unlit forest road near Baldwinsville, New York. The stories told about it are worse than anything that happened there.
Whiskey Hollow is a five mile road outside Baldwinsville, New York with no lighting and no houses along it, running through forest the whole way.
The account that circulated for years held that devil worshippers and members of the Klan used the hollow, and that children were killed there as sacrifices. What people reported seeing followed from that: children walking at the roadside, and a bloodied blanket.
A correction filed in June 2005 addresses those claims directly, and the entry is worth keeping mainly for it. The satanic and Klan stories do not stand up.
Satanic panic legends attached themselves to isolated roads across the United States in the 1980s, and almost none of them survived being checked. The road itself is real, dark and genuinely uncomfortable to drive at night, which is all a legend of this kind ever needs.
