At the mountain pass shrine of the three girls, every driver sounds three honks — those who forget are said to gain a back-seat passenger.

The Bảo Lộc Pass on the road between Saigon and Đà Lạt is notorious for its hairpin bends, and at one of them stands Miếu Ba Cô — the shrine of the three girls. Three young women are said to have died here in an accident, and ever since, truck and bus drivers greet them with three honks or stop to leave fruit and incense before driving on. By legend the girls appear at night in white, hitching lifts along the pass; drivers tell of passengers who have vanished by the next bend. Those who pass without paying respect are said to risk their brakes failing just where the drop is deepest.
