The Ermida Dom Bosco, a small pyramid-shaped chapel designed by Oscar Niemeyer in 1957, was one of the very first buildings of the future Brasília. It was raised in memory of the Italian saint Dom Bosco, who in a prophetic dream in 1883 saw a future civilisation flourishing between the fifteenth and twentieth parallels – where the capital was later built. At the chapel on the shore of Lake Paranoá, visitors tell of a figure in a black cassock, strikingly like the saint himself, seen by the water at dusk. The spirits of the candangos, the construction workers who died during the city's frantic building, are also said to seek this place out.
