Platnerska Street (the Iron Man)
Prag · Tschechien · Alley
The Iron Man, Jachym Berka, walks here once a century, looking for a pure soul who can lift the curse he laid on himself.
Set into the wall on Platnerska Street stands the Zelezny muz, the Iron Man — an armoured figure to whom Prague has given a name: Jachym Berka. The legend says he came home from the war, accused his betrothed of infidelity without cause and married another woman out of sheer spite. The abandoned bride threw herself into the Vltava. When the truth reached him he took his own life, and for the double betrayal he was condemned to wander. Tradition holds he may leave his place only once every hundred years, and only on that night can he be saved — if he meets an innocent soul willing to forgive him. Nobody has yet stayed long enough, and the Iron Man remains in the wall, waiting for the next century.
