Parador de Jaén

Andalusien · Spanien · Hotel

In room 22 of the Santa Catalina castle hotel weeps Jasmina, the woman said to have been murdered in the tower – guests have even filed complaints.

This castle hotel crowns the fortress of Santa Catalina high above Jaén, and its old room 22 is notorious throughout the parador chain. According to legend, Jasmina was the mistress of the fifteenth-century Constable Miguel Lucas de Iranzo and was murdered in the castle tower by jealous noblemen. Guests have described the sobbing of an unseen woman, electrical disturbances, sudden cold and drawers opening by themselves – someone is even said to have formally complained about the ghost at reception. In 1984 a group of parapsychologists examined the room and declared that a young woman's spirit lingers. The view over the olive groves, however, is unbeatable – ghost or no ghost.
