Queen Marguerite de Bourgogne, who died imprisoned in Richard the Lionheart's fortress, is said to walk the ruins still.

Richard the Lionheart's mighty fortress above the Seine became a prison in 1314 for Marguerite de Bourgogne, wife of the French heir to the throne, after the Tour de Nesle scandal. The following year she was found dead in her cell – smothered or strangled on orders from above, many believe – and her grave has never been found. Ever since, visitors have reported a white female figure wandering the ruined walls on the heights above Les Andelys. The legend makes her one of Normandy's most talked-about white ladies.
