Manoir Pavlovich, Pomponne
Paris · Frankreich · Manor
The doctor watched his wife waste away here — and ever since, every couple who moved into the old manor is said to meet the same fate.
East of Paris, in Pomponne on the Marne, stands a manor from 1863 known locally as the manoir Pavlovich or Château de Verdure. The legend begins with the house's first inhabitants: a doctor and a seamstress who lived happily until she was badly injured in a carriage accident. She wasted away before the eyes of a husband who could do nothing, and died in the house. Since then a pattern is said to follow the place — every couple who tried to live there met the same thing: inexplicable noises in the empty rooms, shadows moving in the doorways, and an oppressive weight that eventually drove them out. Today the building is a ruin with the furniture still in it: velvet armchairs, a long table and an old piano standing in the middle of the decay. The house is unstable and on private land.
