Goodwin Sands

Sandbanks said to be the ancient island of Lomea, and a notorious graveyard of ships.

Goodwin Sands near Deal is a series of sandbanks that legend says were once the fertile land of the ancient island of Lomea. On 27 November 1703, 13 British warships and more than 1,900 men were lost here. The ghost ship Lady Lovibond is said to return every fifty years.
