Among the ruins of the tuberculosis sanatorium on Medvednica, the sighs of actress Ljerka Šram are said to linger between the trees.

The lung sanatorium opened in 1909 high on Medvednica, built on the initiative of physician Milivoj Dežman – driven by his love for the tubercular actress Ljerka Šram, who died in his arms here a few years later. For decades thousands of consumptive patients were treated and died in its wards. At the war's end in 1945, patients left behind were shot by incoming troops. Since the hospital closed in 1968 the complex has been left to decay, and around the gaping ruins people speak of sighs, a woman's weeping and screams at dusk. The site ranks among the most haunted in the Zagreb area and draws a steady stream of ghost hunters.
