Baron von Wulf's Italian wife is said to stand on her white balcony at Cesvaine by night – and builders refused to mend the ghost tower's roof.

The fairy-tale palace of Cesvaine in Vidzeme was built in the 1890s by Baron Adolf von Wulf, who by tradition shaped it with white balconies, terraces and a chapel so his Italian wife would feel at home. After the couple's happy years, the wife's spirit is said to have remained: she reportedly wanders her favourite spots at night and is most often seen standing on the white balcony. When the palace's "ghost tower" needed repairs after a fire, workmen allegedly refused to touch it, and psychics were called in to check whether a spirit dwelt there. The palace is open to visitors today.
