Kasteel Rechteren near Dalfsen is the only surviving medieval castle in Overijssel, crowned by a massive round tower from the fourteenth century. According to legend, a raving mad huntsman was once locked away in one of its rooms, where he was heard weeping and screaming for days until everything went quiet – and since then, no one has dared open that door. The castle is still inhabited by the counts van Rechteren Limpurg, and stories of unexplained sounds from the old tower live on in the area.
