Kamieniec Castle, Odrzykoń
Podkarpackie · Polen · Castle ruin
At sunset the dwarf lady Kasia, in a green Renaissance gown, is said to walk the walls of Kamieniec – home at last after dying in a foreign land.
The castle ruin of Kamieniec near Odrzykoń is haunted not by a white lady but by the 'Little Lady': the dwarf Katarzyna, an educated noblewoman at the court of the Kamieniecki family. When Queen Bona visited the castle she took Kasia to Wawel, married her to the dwarf Kornel, and finally presented the couple as a gift to Emperor Charles V. Kasia died in Spain, far from the wooded hills she loved, and was denied burial in her homeland. At dusk, a small figure in a long green Renaissance dress – neither child nor woman – is said to wander among the walls, drawn home by longing.
