On the rocks far below Castillo San Cristóbal stands a lone stone sentry box known for nearly four centuries as La Garita del Diablo – the Devil's Sentry Box. According to legend, the sentry Sánchez failed to answer his comrades' calls one night, and no one dared go down into the dark to check. At dawn they found the box empty: his rifle leaning against the wall, his uniform neatly folded, and no trace of the man himself. Some said the devil had taken him, others that he had run off with his beloved Dina – but the sentry box kept its name, and at night whispers are still said to rise from the waves below.
