When Dean Dahl of Krokstad passed away, the Evil One began appearing often in the district, as if to convince people he had carried off the priest himself. The rumor served a purpose: if not even a clergyman was safe, no one could feel secure. The new priest confronted him directly and asked whether he truly had taken his predecessor. In the end the Evil One was forced to admit no, and afterward he was never seen around Krokstad again.
