A drunken farmer forgot the answers that would save his soul, but a guest came to his rescue.

In Ekenäs a farmer had drunk away his entire estate and was about to hang himself when the dark one offered him seven pairs of oxen for a promise. After seven years the farmer was to answer seven questions, but drink had erased them from his mind. A travelling man from Västergötland who had been given lodging went to the door in his place and answered the devil so boldly that he had to flee. The farmer kept his freedom.
