Camp Security near York, Pennsylvania was a prison camp during the Revolution, holding British soldiers, many of them taken at Saratoga and later at Yorktown, along with their wives and children.

A trail runs back into the woods, and people walking it describe the atmosphere.

The camp held well over a thousand people at its height, in huts and a stockade, through Pennsylvania winters, and a great many died of disease. Some prisoners married locally and stayed after the war rather than going home.

The site was farmland for two centuries and was almost lost to housing development before it was bought for preservation, and archaeology there has been recovering the camp ever since.

It is a protected historic site.
