The school building was the church. A boy is said to have fallen from the balcony. The balcony has since been walled over and made into a room.

The school at St Adalbert in Milwaukee occupies what used to be the church, and the story attached to it is that a boy fell to his death from the balcony.

No record supports it and it should be read as school lore.

What is not in doubt is the architecture. The balcony was walled over and converted into a room, and former teachers and pupils are consistent that the atmosphere in that space is different from the rest of the building.

A sealed off part of a building is the single most reliable generator of stories in this whole collection, and this is at least the fourth example of it here. Something that was open and is now closed acquires a reason.

St Adalbert was a Polish parish, one of many built in Milwaukee by immigrants who put up their own churches.
