Getting there takes some following. Past the fairgrounds at Grass Valley, California, five miles to the dump, left onto Wolf Mountain and up it to a quarter mile before the road dead ends at the top, then a sharp left onto a short dirt driveway.

The structure is understood to be an old water tank, and it has been a local legend for a long time.

Cold spots and figures are reported inside it, but the thing everyone mentions first has nothing to do with any of that. The acoustics are remarkable. A round concrete chamber does extraordinary things to a voice, and the effect on its own is enough to unsettle people standing in the dark.
