Murdered by human wolves

Oklahoma · USA · Cemetery

Growling was heard near a grave whose stone carries those words. A correction in 2003 established which cemetery it is actually in.

Visitors near Konawa, Oklahoma reported growling, and they were clear it was not a dog. It came from near a grave whose headstone reads that the person beneath it was murdered by human wolves.

They put their lights everywhere and saw nothing.

An update filed in November 2003 corrected the location. The stone is not in the cemetery originally named. It is in a smaller burial ground nearby.

That stone is real and it is one of the most extraordinary inscriptions in the United States. It belongs to a young woman who died in 1917, and the words were chosen by a family who believed they knew what had happened to her and could not prove it.

A headstone used to make an accusation that a court would not make appears twice in this collection, and both times it is a family with no other way to be heard.

The cemetery is a burial ground.
