Daisy de Melker's House, Turffontein
Gauteng · Südafrika · House
At around six in the evening, a pale hand is said to draw back the curtain in poisoner Daisy de Melker's old house in Turffontein.
The house on Club Street in the Johannesburg suburb of Turffontein was home to Daisy de Melker, South Africa's first convicted serial killer. During the 1920s she quietly poisoned two husbands and her own son with arsenic and strychnine, was exposed, and was hanged in 1932 amid enormous press attention. Neighbours and passers-by have since dubbed the building 'the ghost house': a figure is said to stand at the upstairs window gazing down at the street, as if waiting for yet another husband to come home. Many report the curtain moving and a pale hand appearing at around six in the evening.
