Ancient Ram Inn — Gloucestershire · United Kingdom · Inn

One of Britain’s most haunted houses — in the "Witch’s Room" a witch burned in the 1500s is said to linger.

The Ancient Ram Inn on Potters Pond in Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, was built in 1145 and is often called Britain’s most haunted building. By legend a witch sought refuge here in the 1500s from the witch-hunters but was seized and burned — the room where she hid is today called the Witch’s Room, where her ghost is said to remain. Visitors tell of an unseen force, voices and the feeling of being touched. The inn is said to rest on a pagan burial ground far older than the building itself.
